Thing #13: Del.icio.us

This might sound really weird, but I had the HARDEST time with delicious. I get the point of the website, I see how it works but when I tried to save some bookmarks I couldn't do it. I did search the bookmarks that where already made. Of course, Columbus Metropolitan Library showed up as a result. We are everywhere! It was interesting to see the variety of tags used to bookmark our site.

I haven't had the chance to really test the site yet, but as my schooling days are not nearly over I am sure that I will be taping in on the other's discoveries to do my research. Hey, with so many people using the site, it can't be anything else but good. :-)

Thing #12:TWITTER!

After watching the clip about Twitter my first thought was "Who cares about what I'm doing every moment of my life? People have enough things to worry about and keep track of to be concerned with the way Tatjana is spending her time!" But, being curious I went ahead and singed up for the free account, and oh my! People love to share what they're doing! Not only that, they also use Twitter as a promotional tool to advertise different going ons in their life, weather it be a program, meeting or any other type of happening that others might be interested in.
It was cool to see that many of my dear CML co-workers were using Twitter so I don't have to relay on Facebook alone to keep me updated on their statuses. :-) While I am too busy right now to completely explore all that Twitter has to offer, I will sign in from time to time and see what's happenin' in around the world.

Thing #11: LibraryThing

I am in love with LibraryThing! Any place that lets you play around and explore the wonderfully delicious world of books is my kinda place! It was interesting to see who else picked the same books I did for their library and read the reviews. (I have to admit that I generally agreed with the majority of the reviews). It's a great site to help you organize what you've read and help pick out another great read. If you're interested in checking out my profile the link is http://www.librarything.com/profile/tatjana24. I am still working on making it pretty-full so excuse the bland look.

Thing #10: Image Generator

This exercise was fun. I must admit that I didn't use the Discovery Resources to complete it, so i did a little searching of my own to find an image generating site. I stumbled upon http://www.imagegenerator.net/
and created the image to your left. I have to apologize to Clippy because he normally would never say such things as he is always there to offer help and advice. The image to your right was created by my co-worker. It's me Anime style. :-)

I think I will use what I learned from this exercise to hone my creative skills (which are now somewhat lacking).

Thing #9: More FSS Feeds!!!

I think I've fallen in love with RSS feeds. They are so convenient! During my frantic search to find 10 RSS feeds i've come upon some that were really easy to use and others just didn't have that something that called out to me... ;-)

I love Topix.net. It looks really nice and it's simple to use, plus it's local. Technorati was my second favorite. I had fun using the seach box and locating different feeds. ( I was disappointed to recieve a "Search / No results for columbus metropolitan lilbrary") Finally, Syndic8.com just seemed bland. I didn't have much luck locating feeds I would be interested in.

Thing #8: RSS Feeds

I think I conquered the most difficult "thing". It was really fun to to pick the sites I wanted to "feed" to my bloglines account. It's easy to see why RSS Feeds are such a great idea. They really do save the time and energy normaly spent surfing the net to find the new, weather or any other reports.

Thing #7: Technology

Technology!!!! Where would the world be without it? It's EVERYWHERE! It impacts every aspect of our lives. As with everything else, technology has the good and the bad that tag along, but I am choosing the focus on the GREAT thing that technology has been able to offer to me.

Imagine living thousands of miles away from your family. Unfortunately, I can rest my imagination because this is my reality. I miss my family terribly. I only saw them once in 10 years! That is a long, long, long time! The only thing I have that helps to alleviate the ache in my heart is technology. Without it, I wouldn't be able to communicate with my relatives all over the world as easily, not to mention inexpensively, as I do. Even though I am not there to celebrate birthdays and holidays with them I am invited to attend thorough a picture or a video clip.

So, thank you technologically inclined and ingenious minds, for creating computers, internet, digital cameras, cell phones, text messaging, social sites... and so many more things that keep me connect to what I love above all: MY FAMILY.

Technology can make you feel like you've got the world in the palm of your hand!
